HOUSE of MARTHA

06-25-2010

Hello.  Here is a quick update on the House of Martha.  As you can see from this first photo there is an additional building going up.  This is to be the Boy’s Dormitory and Skills Training Center.  Currently the boys live with the girls (separated of course) in the main building.  This new building will keep them apart.  Also with the Training Center the older children will be taught some lay skills.

The next photo is a picture of the children eating lunch.  There are 44 children in the House of Martha at this time.  That is the capacity.  It is a large choir cooking for that many people.  The House of Martha has two electric stoves in the kitchen.  There are two ovens and seven burners.  Of these only one oven and one burner works.  These stoves came from their last residence which they moved out of in 2008.  They do a lot of cooking using charcoal.  Two weeks ago when Corliss and I returned from Siavonga we bought a bag of charcoal on the road.  It was over 50 KG.  I couldn’t lift it.  It was donated to the House.  I’m hoping to get Moses here at Justo Mwale over to the House of Martha to take a look at the stoves to determine if they are repairable.  Moses is Justo’s electrical and multi-purpose handyman.

The final photo is the kids watching the movie ‘CARS’.  I brought that movie from Texas.  It looks like they are having a good time.  I’ve got another one to show and I hope to make it over there.  Corliss brought the projector from Sam Houston State University.  Everybody wants to use it.

In the picture of the kids watching the movie in thee back on the right hand side is Rev. Benedicto Chakanda from Karonga, Malawi.  He and I have become friends sitting in the Board Room at Justo Mwale working on the internet.  He’s invited me to visit his congregation in Malawi.  He has a congregation of about 2000 members.  His church is CCAP of Northern Province Malawi.  I expect I’ll go in a few weeks.  The term at Justo ends Monday.  He’s taking his Greek exam then taking a 14 hour bus ride to Tanzania, then another four hours south to Karonga.  He finishes Justo Mwale in November.  His studies have been for two years.
